Terraria house designs 1.31/17/2024 Also, if NPCs die, they will not necessarily move back into the same place when they respawn. If every house is full, you'd need an empty room to send one to in order to adjust where they live. You can move NPCs in and out using the housing interface, you cannot simply swap where they live though. A building in Terraria with the capacity to hold all 19 NPCs, with minor modifications Having lots of little cottages is doable, but it will take time! Not only in construction, but also in getting to vendors when you need them. Building individual houses for each NPC takes more materials than combining them into a home and takes up much more space in your world. For those who skipped this or wonder what works, I'm going to provide some clear and simple answers.īecause most people will build an apartment building, mansion or castle in which to house all their NPCs, it's worth noting we're really talking about individual room requirements here although the game refers to it as housing. Many new players will get a tutorial to build their first house, but may not realize other sizes work as well. The vendors who live in your town are sometimes necessary to craft powerful items that help you advance the game. Housing your NPCs is a key part of Terraria. Courtesy of, which regularly features new shots of gameplay and builds. No trapdoors, switches, actuators, teleporters, etc required whatsoever.Terraria: Houses Building Tips & Valid Housing Requirements Housing designed as a ship, using background walls for sails. So if you want an entrance that NPCs will not use, make a tiny little "airlock" room, that requires one to jump through wood platforms to get up to, and you'll never have NPCs opening your main entrance door(s). ![]() it will NOT prevent Mothrons, and if you're on a small world, you could actually end up accidentally attracting Wyverns depending on how exactly you built the house (it does not take much to get wyverns to spawn on a small world I've had worlds where they spawned while I was on the ground), but yet not everybody wants a house in the sky, nor is it even necessary for basic house defense.įact of it is, you can make pretty much any kind of house, and as long as the door to get into the house is at least 2-3 blocks off of the ground (easily jumped through), mobs cannot open the door and you simply put a room or two (or make jumping required to get into it from the other side too) to keep NPCs from accidentally opening the door themselves. Yes, putting your house in the air will prevent wraiths and reapers. Not really all that hard to do is you're really THAT paranoid, you can easily place a teleporter near your bed that takes you away from your house in a flash to immediately despawn the mobs that are threatening your NPCs (or at least drag them away for stuff that won't despawn like Wyverns). Don't summon bosses too close to your house. Don't be in your house during a Solar Eclipse (You get plenty of time to get away from your house once you get the notification that one is happening before Mothrons start spawning)ģ). Don't be in your house during a Blood Moon (NPCs can kill Wraiths now anyways)Ģ). Goblin Sorcerers can teleport into any house regardless.ĭuring Hardmode, as said above, only Wraiths, Reapers, Mothron, and Martian Saucers are of any threat whatsoever unless you drag a Wyvern back to your base accidentally or spawn a boss too close.ġ). In all fairness, any house that does not have an entrance door level with the ground is "safe" during easymode, lol. ![]() Overall, I think this is a fine base design for early-game, although, depending on the player, obtaining lava may take some time. (I also like using my base as an automated killing machine, so having NPCs nearby lowering spawn rates doesn't work well for me.) To me, the convenience of having them very close isn't worth the potential inconvenience of having them die. Personally, after the first few nights, I keep NPCs housed about one to two hundred blocks away from my base (which I build around the map's original spawnpoint in case I have any mishaps with beds). (Solar eclipse mobs can spawn anywhere on the surface, so the player may as well go somewhere else.) ![]() Mothrons aren't going to be a huge issue (unless you're like me and often want to buy Rocket IVs from the Cyborg), since anyone serious about keeping their NPCs alive (or having high spawn rates for more opportunities for wanted drops) would move to another area, perhaps to a dedicated grinder/arena. In normal mode, this is only an occasional, minor disturbance however, in expert mode, the NPCs may have problems defending against wraiths, especially when only 4-5 NPCs could target a wraith at one time due to almost all NPCs requiring a direct line of sight to fight. Wraiths do not need a Blood Moon to spawn your average hardmode night will allow them to spawn naturally on the surface.
