Blender 2.8 release date1/12/2024 ![]() When they hit a hard wall (because development isn´t complete) I always tell them “Hey, this feature will come, you can tweak it like this and like that with this and that node or parameter, let´s picture this same situation on 2.79 where you do this and you do that…to get it solve” BAM! LIGHT! Bright shining smiley faces because the problem was presented, solved and demostrated on production. Regardless, I -being a Blender Trainer- teach people who love 2.8 in 2.8 environment. <- Oh boy I can see now why the sudents result in a lack of drive to make things sucessful, if they’re are going to get inspiration from “I´ll stay like this because the community is now money driven because of the 2.8 arrival” <- oh goshhh… I´m very surprised for the initial statement “teaching at university since 2k”. ![]() I just want to quote the “us -Pro- users will stick to 2.79” <- you´re PRO(fessional), so what’s the problem with INVESTING? Don´t PRO know how to do that? Many are completely and utterly unnecessary, no one will ever use some of those key combinations for whatever reason. There needs to be an option to disable active tools so that they do not force people to get used to them, adding extra steps to ensure the user is in the correct active tool every step of the way.Īnd looking at the default hotkey settings of 2.8, I can confidently say the person who set it up has no idea how Blender’s hotkey system had worked and simply started to map every single command in existence into the hotkeys. And yet it seems a lot of the effort is being put on the UI, something that worked pretty well in the past, for as far as I feel. But at the moment Blender 2.8 does not even have a release date. I’m not against funding to Blender project, money is good if it is effective. Or in the worst case, this outside money is the reason why Blender had to standardize and have every single one of its unnecessary changes. In the best case, it is merely a correlation. This outside money is not the result of standardization. I can also say, Blender is now receiving money from sponsors and lost control over its supposed evolution. The 35,000 USD a month in the development fund seems to say otherwise, that the BF is reaping the rewards of getting closer to the standard in a few areas (even though 2.8 does not go the whole way). But for me one thing is clear: When I earn money with this great software, then I want to give something back to the developers and the community. But I think the core tools in Blender are quite good so there is not so much need for me to buy plug-ins as a Blender novice. The open movie projects show me, that they are filmmakers - not only coders! That’s what I really like about blender! As a former Cinema 4D user I find the costs for commercial plug-ins for Blender quite moderate. I hope, that Blender will continue to work on the core stuff. Today Maxon announced the aquisitition of Redshift  This seems to be a good decision, but its also a confession, that they are not able to build a decent render engine themselves. The quality of cycles is the reason, why I switched to Blender. So why should I buy Cycles4D for 300 €, when it is free within Blender? That made me investigate in Blender. I had to spend extra money for basic features and core functionality. Without them I could t do the few jobs that I had in time. Mainly for render engines! I bought Vray, then Arnold. The reason I jumped the ship is exactly what you are talking about: In Cinema 4D I had to spend thousands of € for plug-ins. ![]() I dived straight into Blender 2.8 to learn the “future way” of doing things. After many years of using Cinema 4D I switched to Blender recently.
